Twenty sixteen has been reputed in being a bad year, well for some individuals it may have been. For me however, well it was a very good year starting off with the notification from the Canadian Armed Forces that I was no longer being retained as a solider and was being released medically for a few different reasons. This started a whole snowball effect of new challenges and stressors.
During the spring I had decided what I wanted to do with my life; I wanted to be a photographer, to make a living and enjoy the passion of photographing the world, the moments which swirl around us all the time. This was no easy task as I needed to find a school which had a two year program, which my vocational rehab would approve and furthermore provide me with the best education I could possibly have once I was done.
The summer was a roller coaster ride of getting the house ready to move, and to also put it on the market to sell, on top of that I was also was released officially from the military on August 15th; this marked the end of my approximate 15 year career as a military member for the Canadian Armed Forces. The fun had only begun, as I had two and half weeks to get unpacked settled and focus on school. I accomplished it and woke up everyday of my semester looking forward to going to school.
Once I started school, I knew that I had made the right choice in the program and what exactly I was going to accomplish in my life. I took every opportunity to photograph anything and everything. I still haven’t posted everything up in my portfolio, but that will come soon enough.
Some of the highlights of what I accomplished at Mohawk College in 2016:
OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPHER FOR SURGE AT MOHAWK COLLEGE
HELPED OUT AND ASSISTED MANY OF MY PEERS IN STUDIO
GOVFEST OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPHER FOR 2017
PHOTOGRAPHER FOR ALUMNI FESTIVITIES AT MOHAWK COLLEGE
ALL ACCESS FIELD PASS TO TIM HORTON’S FIELD TO SHOOT THE OFSAA FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS
ENDED THE YEAR WITH AN INCREDIBLE MARK
PHOTOGRAPHED MANY OF MY PEERS’ SPECIAL MOMENTS
Needless to say, I can see 2017 becoming the first of many successful years for me as a photographer.
Until next time capture the moment!
